Product Specific Information

  • Antibody is tested in direct ELISA (use at 2–4 µg/mL for coating).
  • For Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Calnexin (also known as IP90, p88, and p90) is an approximately 90 kDa integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It functions as a molecular chaperone involved in proper folding and assembly of polypeptides into multisubunit proteins.
Calnexin associates with MHC class I heavy chains, partial complexes of the T cell receptor, and B cell membrane immunoglobulin, but not with completed receptor complexes. It retains incompletely or improperly folded proteins within the ER.
Soluble ER proteins often contain the KDEL sequence for ER retention, whereas calnexin, as an integral membrane protein, lacks KDEL but has positively charged cytosolic residues ensuring ER localization.
Calnexin structure includes:

  • ER luminal domain: 461 amino acids
  • Transmembrane segment: 22 amino acids
  • Cytoplasmic tail: 89 amino acids
