Target Information
PIGM encodes a transmembrane protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum involved in GPI-anchor biosynthesis. The glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor is a glycolipid containing three mannose molecules in its core backbone. It anchors proteins to the cell surface, particularly in blood cells.
PIGM encodes a mannosyltransferase, GPI-MT-I, responsible for transferring the first mannose to GPI on the lumenal side of the endoplasmic reticulum.
