This antibody is predicted to react with chicken, chimpanzee, invertebrates, mammals, porcine, xenopus, and zebrafish based on sequence homology.
Target Information
The SMAD1/SMAD5/SMAD8/SMAD9 proteins belong to the SMAD family, homologous to the Drosophila mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and C. elegans Sma genes. SMAD proteins act as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways.
They mediate bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling, which regulates cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses. Upon BMP ligand binding, SMAD1/5/9 are phosphorylated by BMP receptor kinases and form complexes with SMAD4, regulating transcription.
These proteins are targeted by SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases (SMURF1, SMURF2) for ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
