Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been identified in tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. The most common genetic alteration is chromosomal rearrangement, producing a fusion gene of ALK and nucleophosmin (NPM). The NPM-ALK fusion protein is oncogenic. ALK encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, which are absent in the NPM-ALK product. ALK is closely related to LTK and plays an essential role in neuronal development and signaling.
