Target Information
This gene belongs to the trypsin family of serine proteases and encodes anionic trypsinogen. It is part of a cluster of trypsinogen genes located within the T cell receptor beta locus. Enzymes of this family cleave peptide bonds following lysine or arginine residues. The protein is highly expressed in pancreatic juice and upregulated in pancreatitis. It can activate pro-urokinase in ovarian tumors, contributing to tumor invasion, and cleave type II collagen in rheumatoid arthritis tissue, potentially aiding cartilage matrix degradation. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
