Target Information
BRSK1 (also known as SAD1) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in UV-induced DNA damage checkpoint control. It is highly expressed in the brain and testes and plays a role in stress-induced cell cycle arrest. Overexpression leads to G2/M arrest in HeLa S2 cells, while reduced expression via siRNA partially abrogates UV-induced G2/M arrest, indicating its function in DNA damage checkpoint regulation.
BRSK1 and its related protein BRSK2 are essential for mammalian neuronal polarization. Double-knockout mice lacking both genes die shortly after birth, and their neurons show abnormal morphology with uniformly sized neurites expressing both axonal and dendritic markers. At least two isoforms of BRSK1 are known.
