Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two major assemblies: the 20S core and the 19S regulator.

  • 20S Core: 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of 7 alpha subunits and two rings of 7 beta subunits)
  • 19S Regulator: Base with 6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits, and a lid with up to 10 non-ATPase subunits

Proteasomes are widely distributed throughout eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays an essential role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid and may also participate in TNF signaling through interaction with TNF type 1 receptor.
A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1.
