Target Information
NSUN4 is a 5-methylcytosine rRNA methyltransferase involved in mitochondrial ribosome assembly. Specifically, NSUN4 participates in mitochondrial ribosome small subunit (SSU) maturation by methylation of mitochondrial 12S rRNA. This function is independent of MTREFD2/MTERF4 and assembled mitochondrial ribosome large subunit (LSU). NSUN4 is targeted to LSU by MTREFD2/MTERF4 and is involved in the final step of ribosome biogenesis to ensure proper assembly of SSU and LSU.
