Target Information

Metastasis suppressor protein 1 (MTSS1), also known as “missing in metastasis (MIM)”, was first identified as missing transcripts in metastatic bladder and prostate cancer cells.
MTSS1 is a 755-amino-acid multidomain scaffolding protein with proline-rich/SH3 binding and serine-rich regions containing EGF or PDGF/Src consensus sites.
It features an actin-binding Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein homology-2 (WH2) motif at the C-terminus and an N-terminal IMD domain that interacts with membranes and bundles actin filaments.
MTSS1 interacts with cortactin and enhances cortactin- and Arp2/3-dependent actin polymerization, contributing to cell motility and morphogenesis.
It also plays a role in sonic hedgehog/Gli signaling and is expressed in various tissues including spleen, thymus, prostate, testis, uterus, colon, and peripheral blood.
