Product Specific Information
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed samples): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues: heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Cellular uptake of iron occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-occupied transferrin receptor into specialized endosomes. Endosomal acidification leads to iron release, and the apotransferrin–receptor complex is recycled to the cell surface, where neutral pH causes dissociation.
Transferrin receptor is essential for the development of erythrocytes and the nervous system. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is used to detect erythropoietin (EPO) misuse and as a diagnostic marker for various anemias, including those associated with rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, irritable bowel syndrome, and HIV.
