Directed against human PCNA protein. BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with PCNA proteins from human, monkey, dog, mouse, rat, bovine, chicken, fish, and Xenopus based on 100% homology with the immunizing sequence. Reactivity against homologues from other sources is not known.

Target Information

PCNA (polymerase delta auxiliary protein) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways.
PCNA binds to CDK inhibitor p21, structure-specific endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
It serves as a marker for proliferative cells and helps identify tumor proliferation status.
PCNA is localized in the nucleus, acts as a cofactor of DNA polymerase delta, and forms a homotrimer to increase processing during DNA replication.
In response to DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found, and pseudogenes are described on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
