Target Information
Gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) is a strong inhibitor of neuron transmission found throughout the central nervous system. GABA is formed by the decarboxylation of glutamate, resulting in two distinct receptor types: GABA-A and GABA-B.
The binding of GABA to GABA-A receptors increases chloride ion transport into neurons, repressing signal transmission. Insufficient GABA-mediated signaling can lead to system overloads, blackouts, rapid body contractions, seizures, and epilepsy.
