Complex II of the respiratory chain, involved in the oxidation of succinate, transfers electrons from FADH to CoQ.
This complex consists of four nuclear-encoded subunits localized in the mitochondrial inner membrane.
The iron-sulfur subunit is highly conserved and contains three cysteine-rich clusters that may form the enzyme’s iron-sulfur centers.
Mutations in this gene are associated with paragangliomas and pheochromocytoma, linking mitochondrial dysfunction to tumorigenesis.
