Target Information
ACCN3 encodes a member of the degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (DEG/ENaC) superfamily. Members of this family are amiloride-sensitive sodium channels containing intracellular N and C termini, two hydrophobic transmembrane regions, and a large extracellular loop rich in cysteine residues with conserved spacing.
ACCN3 functions as an acid sensor and may play an important role in detecting sustained pH changes. Heteromeric association between ACCN3 and ACCN1 has been observed, forming proton-gated channels sensitive to gadolinium.
