• NF-L: Light or low molecular weight microfilament subunit (~70 kDa)
• NF-M and NF-H: Medium and heavy molecular weight subunits (NF-H runs at ~180–220 kDa)
  These proteins are essential for the maintenance of neuronal caliber and show tissue-specific and developmentally regulated expression.
