Target Information
Cadherins are a family of Ca²⁺-dependent adhesion molecules that mediate cell-cell binding, crucial for structural maintenance and morphogenesis. Each cadherin has a large extracellular domain at the N-terminus composed of five homologous repeats, with the distal repeat conferring binding specificity.
Cadherin-16 (Ksp-Cadherin) is a type I membrane protein expressed specifically in the kidney, localized to the basolateral membrane of renal tubular epithelial cells. The human Ksp-cadherin gene (Cadherin-16) maps to chromosome 16q21–proximal 16q22, while the mouse gene is found in a syntenic region of distal chromosome 8.
