This is an IgG preparation of whole rabbit serum purified by DEAE fractionation.
The antibody is primarily directed against mature 17 kDa mouse IL-1β and is useful for detecting its presence in various assays.
It does not recognize human IL-1β or mouse IL-1α (based on neutralization assay).
In ELISA and other immunoreactive assays, it also reacts with rat IL-1β.
This antibody recognizes about 10% of the non-denatured 31 kDa precursor IL-1β but primarily detects the 17 kDa mature form.
In immunoblot analysis, denaturing of the 31 kDa precursor (by heating in SDS with or without reducing agents) allows recognition by this antibody.

Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved into an active 17 kDa form via inflammasome activation and caspase-1 processing.
IL-1β lacks a classical signal peptide and is secreted through an alternative pathway.
It signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α, and its activity is regulated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA).
IL-1β plays a key role in innate immunity and inflammation, and elevated levels are associated with various chronic inflammatory diseases.
Neutralizing antibodies against IL-1β have potential therapeutic applications.
