This gene encodes one of three GA-binding protein transcription factor subunits functioning as a DNA-binding subunit. It shares identity with the nuclear respiratory factor 2 gene subunit, suggesting involvement in cytochrome oxidase expression and mitochondrial function regulation. It also shares identity with the E4TF1 transcription factor subunit responsible for adenovirus E4 gene expression. Due to chromosomal localization and heterodimer formation ability, this gene may be related to the Down Syndrome phenotype. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
