Target Information

E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a glycoprotein involved in calcium-dependent cell–cell adhesion and consists of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.

Mutations in the CDH1 gene are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of E-cadherin function contributes to cancer progression by promoting proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. The ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells, while the cytoplasmic domain is required for internalization.

E-cadherin plays a central role in maintaining tissue architecture and integrity, and reduction or loss of expression correlates with increased invasiveness in carcinomas. The human E-cadherin gene (CDH1) is located on chromosome 16.
