Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한, 말초 신경의 위성세포 및 비수초성 Schwann 세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경 줄기세포 역시 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 마커로 유용하게 사용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타납니다. 그 외에도 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구 등에서 보고되었습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial 세포와 구분하는 마커로 사용되며, 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발할 수 있습니다. GFAP 유전자는 다양한 isoform을 인코딩하는 여러 전사체 변이를 가집니다.
