Target Information
This gene belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family and encodes a multi-pass membrane protein localized to the endoplasmic reticulum. The protein binds estrogen, leading to intracellular calcium mobilization and synthesis of phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate in the nucleus. It plays a role in rapid nongenomic signaling events observed after estrogen stimulation. Alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding the same protein have been characterized.
