This gene belongs to the protocadherin beta gene cluster, one of three related clusters tandemly linked on chromosome 5.
The beta cluster contains 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each encoding six extracellular cadherin domains and a cytoplasmic tail differing from other cadherins.
These proteins mediate homophilic interactions to specify differential cell-cell connections and are integral plasma membrane proteins, likely involved in neural connectivity.
