Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis, existing as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits. It catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond its glycolytic role, GAPDH participates in DNA replication, repair, RNA export, membrane fusion, and microtubule bundling. It has been implicated in apoptosis, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s, and serves as a common protein loading control in Western blot analysis due to its high expression in most tissues.
