Target Information
Protein assembly at the postsynaptic density (PSD) of neuronal synapses is mediated by interactions with PDZ motifs (PSD-95/discs large/zona occludens-1).
Mammalian LIN-7 (MALS) proteins are homologs of C. elegans LIN-7, essential for vulval development.
Also known as Veli (Vertebrate Lin-7) proteins, MALS-3 mRNA is most abundant in kidney, followed by brain, liver, thymus, and heart, but undetectable in spleen.
In cultured cortical neurons, MALS proteins cluster with PSD-95 and NMDA-type glutamate receptors, suggesting roles in neurotransmitter receptor recruitment and synaptic vesicle exocytosis.
