KCNH3 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 전압 개폐 칼륨 채널 알파 서브유닛으로, 주로 전뇌에서 발현됩니다.
마우스 연구에서 이 유전자가 결손되면 인지 기능이 향상되는 것으로 보고되었으며, 인간에서는 HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein 120과 결합할 수 있음이 확인되었습니다.
이 유전자는 서로 다른 isoform을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이를 포함합니다.
