Target Information
IL-10 encodes a cytokine primarily produced by monocytes and some lymphocytes.
This cytokine regulates immune responses and inflammation by down-regulating Th1 cytokines, MHC class II antigens, and costimulatory molecules on macrophages.
It enhances B cell survival, proliferation, and antibody production, blocks NF-kappa B activity, and participates in the JAK-STAT signaling pathway.
Knockout studies in mice show IL-10 is essential for intestinal immune regulation.
Mutations in IL10 are linked to increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection and rheumatoid arthritis.
Diseases associated with IL10 include Graft-Versus-Host Disease and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1.
