Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the neurotrophin family that controls survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. It is closely related to nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. NT3 may be involved in maintenance of the adult nervous system and development of neurons in the embryo, being expressed in human placenta. NTF3-deficient mice display severe limb movement defects. The mature peptide is identical across mammals including human, pig, rat, and mouse.
