Background
This gene encodes a membrane protein involved in increasing intracellular calcium concentration upon cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix. The encoded protein acts as a receptor for the C-terminal cell-binding domain of thrombospondin and may play a role in membrane transport and signal transduction. It is broadly expressed across tissues and reduced on Rh erythrocytes. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified (RefSeq, Jul 2010).
