Target Information
This gene encodes one member of a family of translation repressor proteins. The protein interacts with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), a key component of the complex that recruits 40S ribosomal subunits to mRNAs. Interaction with eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation. Phosphorylation of this protein in response to signals such as UV irradiation or insulin leads to dissociation from eIF4E and activation of mRNA translation.
