Target Information
ATG3 (APG3) is a widely expressed conjugating enzyme essential for APG8 lipidation, a critical step in autophagy initiation. Autophagy is a process of bulk degradation of cellular proteins through the autophagosomal-lysosomal pathway, vital for normal growth control and nutrient preservation under starvation. It is negatively regulated by TOR through phosphorylation of APG1. ATG3 acts as an E2-like enzyme during autophagosome formation by catalyzing the Atg8-phosphatidylethanolamine (Atg8-PE) conjugate formation, which is crucial for autophagy.
