Target Information
Phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein (PBP) binds ATP, opioids, and phosphatidylethanolamine, with lower affinity for phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylcholine.
It acts as a serine protease inhibitor that inhibits thrombin, neuropsin, and chymotrypsin but not trypsin, tissue-type plasminogen activator, or elastase.
PBP contains hippocampal cholinergic neurostimulating peptide (HCNP), which may be involved in the function of presynaptic cholinergic neurons in the central nervous system.
HCNP increases the production of choline acetyltransferase but not acetylcholinesterase.
