Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Collagen XIII alpha 1.
Target Information
This gene encodes the alpha chain of one of the nonfibrillar collagens. The function of this gene product is not known; however, it has been detected at low levels in all connective tissue-producing cells, suggesting a general role in connective tissues. Unlike most collagens secreted into the extracellular matrix, collagen XIII contains a transmembrane domain and localizes to the plasma membrane. Transcripts undergo complex splicing involving at least eight exons. Collagen XIII is a trimer, though the composition of alpha chain isomers remains unclear. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but not all are fully characterized.
