Target Information
Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase 1 (PCK1) is a key regulatory enzyme in gluconeogenesis, acting as a rate-limiting step in the conversion of metabolic intermediates. It plays a role in maintaining memory CH8(+) T-cells and regulating metabolic flux through cataplerosis and anaplerosis.
When glucose levels are high, PCK1 catalyzes the conversion of oxaloacetate to phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP), and reverses this reaction under low glucose conditions.
Phosphorylation at Ser-90 by AKT1 enables PCK1 to act as a protein kinase, influencing lipogenesis by modulating INSIG–SCAP interactions and promoting SREBP-mediated transcription of lipogenic genes.
PCK2 is an important paralog of this gene.
