Target Information
COPS8 is a subunit of the COP9 signalosome (CSN), an evolutionarily conserved protein complex composed of eight subunits. This complex interacts with deubiquitinating enzymes and protein kinases and is homologous to the lid sub-complex of the 26S proteasome. The CSN complex regulates the ubiquitin conjugation pathway by mediating deneddylation of SCF-type E3 ligase complexes, decreasing their ubiquitin ligase activity. It is also involved in phosphorylation of proteins such as p53, c-jun/JUN, ITPK1, and IRF8/ICSBP through associations with CK2 and PKD kinases. CSN8 encodes the smallest and least conserved subunit of CSN, essential for Drosophila development and for peripheral T cell homeostasis and activation from quiescence.
