Target Information
Mucolipin 3 is expressed in the cochlea, particularly in the inner and outer hair cells.
Defects in Mcoln3 cause the varitin-waddler (Va) phenotype, characterized by early-onset hearing loss, vestibular defects, pigmentation abnormalities, and perinatal lethality.
The varitin-waddler Jackson (Va-J) variant shows a similar but less severe phenotype.
Belongs to the transient receptor family, polycystin subfamily.
