Target Information

Calmodulin mediates the control of numerous enzymes, ion channels, aquaporins, and other proteins by Ca²⁺. The calmodulin–Ca²⁺ complex stimulates several protein kinases and phosphatases. Together with CCP110 and centrin, it participates in regulating the centrosome cycle and cytokinesis.
Calmodulin is a small, highly conserved calcium-binding protein (17 kDa) found in all eukaryotic cells. It binds up to four calcium ions and acts as an intracellular receptor for calcium signals, undergoing conformational changes that increase affinity for target proteins.
It regulates energy metabolism, cell motility, exocytosis, cytoskeletal assembly, and intracellular cAMP and calcium modulation. Calmodulin contains 149 amino acids and four calcium-binding domains, functioning in growth, cell cycle, signal transduction, and neurotransmitter synthesis and release.
