Target Information
The inhibin alpha subunit joins either the beta A or beta B subunit to form a pituitary FSH secretion inhibitor. Inhibin negatively regulates gonadal stromal cell proliferation and exhibits tumor-suppressor activity. Serum inhibin levels correlate with granulosa-cell tumor size, serving as a marker for primary and recurrent disease. In prostate cancer, inhibin alpha gene expression is suppressed in poorly differentiated tumor cells. Expression varies across gonadal and extragonadal tissues, suggesting inhibin functions as both a growth/differentiation factor and a hormone.
