Target Information
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme in the glycolytic pathway that converts pyruvate to lactate with concomitant interconversion of NADH and NAD+.
In mammals, LDH is encoded by three genes: LDHA (M form), LDHB (H form), and LDHC (X form).
Human LDHs share 84–89% sequence similarity and 69–75% amino acid identity.
There are five LDH isoenzymes based on the combination of M and H chains in the tetrameric structure.
LDHA is hypoxia-inducible and regulated by HIF1α activity.
LDHB is upregulated in many cancers.
Mutations in LDHA can cause Glycogen Storage Disease 11 (GSD11).
