Target Information

NOD1 is a member of the NOD (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain) family, a group of proteins involved in innate immune defense. It contains:

  • N-terminal caspase recruitment domain (CARD)
  • Centrally located nucleotide-binding domain (NBD)
  • Ten tandem leucine-rich repeats (LRRs) in its C-terminus

The CARD domain participates in apoptotic signaling, activating caspase-9 and NF-kappa-B. LRRs mediate protein-protein interactions. Mutations in the NBD may impact oligomerization and LRR function. NOD1 acts as an intracellular pattern-recognition receptor (PRR) detecting bacterial diaminopimelic acid to initiate inflammation.
