Target Information

IL-10 encodes a cytokine primarily produced by monocytes and lymphocytes. It plays a critical role in immunoregulation and inflammation by:

• Down-regulating Th1 cytokines, MHC class II antigens, and costimulatory molecules on macrophages
• Enhancing B cell survival, proliferation, and antibody production
• Blocking NF-kappa B activity
• Regulating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway

Knockout studies in mice indicate IL-10 is essential for intestinal immune regulation. Mutations in IL10 are linked to increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection and rheumatoid arthritis.
Diseases associated with IL10 include Graft-Versus-Host Disease and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1.
