SUPT4H1 is a component of the DRB sensitivity-inducing factor (DSIF) complex, which regulates mRNA processing and transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II.
- DSIF positively regulates mRNA capping by stimulating RNGTT/CAP1A activity.
- Cooperates with the NELF complex to enhance transcriptional pausing near promoters.
- Promotes assembly of elongation-competent RNA polymerase II complexes.
- Suppresses transcriptional pausing and premature release of HIV-1 transcripts, facilitating efficient elongation by Tat.
