Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and may serve as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases.
This gene (KLK8) is one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in tandem on chromosome 19. The encoded protein may play a role in proteolytic cascades in the skin and could serve as a biomarker for ovarian cancer.
Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
