Target Information
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen capable of inducing fever in autoimmune or infectious conditions. IL-6 is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and induces transcriptional inflammatory responses via the IL-6 receptor alpha. Dysregulation of IL-6 is associated with multiple inflammatory diseases, including diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels have also been observed in viral infections such as COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
