MAPKAPK2는 생체 내에서 p38 및 ERK 신호 전달을 매개하며, 스트레스 및 염증 반응, 핵 내 수출, 유전자 발현 조절, 세포 증식 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다. MAPKAPK2는 Ser/Thr 단백질 키나아제 계열의 구성원으로, p38 MAP kinase에 의해 직접 인산화되어 조절됩니다. HSP27은 이 키나아제의 기질 중 하나로 알려져 있으며, 두 가지 서로 다른 아이소폼을 암호화하는 전사 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
