Orphan receptor, potentially a receptor for trace amines. Of the biogenic trace amines tested, activated only by beta-phenylethylamine (beta-PEA) and tryptamine, though with low potency.
Trace amines are biogenic amines present at very low levels in mammalian tissues. While they act as neurotransmitters in invertebrates, their roles in vertebrates remain speculative.
This receptor likely interacts with G(s)-class G-proteins to activate adenylate cyclase, suggesting involvement in diverse physiological functions.
