Target Information
TAAR4 is an orphan receptor that may function as a receptor for trace amines. Of the tested biogenic trace amines, it is activated by beta-phenylethylamine (β-PEA) and tryptamine, though with low potency. Trace amines are biogenic amines present in very low levels in mammalian tissues. While their neurotransmitter roles are well established in invertebrates, their functions in vertebrates remain speculative. TAAR4 signaling is likely mediated by G(s)-class G-proteins, which activate adenylate cyclase.
