Target Information
Adaptins are key components of clathrin-coated vesicles that transport ligand-receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or trans-Golgi network to lysosomes.
The adaptin family includes alpha, beta-, beta prime-, and gamma-adaptins. Together with medium and small subunits, they form a heterotetrameric adaptor complex that promotes clathrin-coated pit and vesicle formation.
The encoded protein is a gamma-adaptin belonging to the adaptor complexes large subunit family. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
