Target Information

Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx proteins (approximately 50 isoforms) are categorized based on amino acid sequence homology and thiol-specific antioxidant activity. Prx VI belongs to the 1-Cys Prx subgroup, while the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as a reducing system. Mammalian Prxs (20–30 kDa) vary in subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secretion; and Prx V in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
