Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes that are stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). Activated T cells express inhibitory receptors such as PD-1 (PDCD-1), which bind ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2 on APCs. Binding of these ligands transmits inhibitory signals that limit immune activation in the absence of danger signals (e.g., LPS or pathogen-associated molecules). PD1-deficient mice exhibit hyperactivated immune systems and autoimmune diseases. PD-1 often migrates at a higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE than predicted.
