Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between pH 4.9 and 7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20, and their expression patterns vary depending on epithelial type and differentiation state.
Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used to distinguish different epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in the differential diagnosis of tumors using immunohistochemistry and are also useful in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
